The world-renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has worked together with Republic of Fritz Hansen to create the Ro Chair that was launched at Salone del Mobile 2013 in Milan.
Fritz Hansen’s design brief to Jaime Hayon was “… to create a comfortable seat for one person”. “We put a great deal of effort into the form of the chair, which is inspired by the human body. We wanted a chair that was comfortable as well as beautiful. My goal was to create a slim and elegant chair that encourages reflection and comfort,” says Jaime Hayon.
“Ro” means tranquillity in Danish. The name was chosen because it captures the point of the chair in just two letters, thus reflecting the Nordic approach and concept of beauty.
Jaime Hayon is definitely aware of the fact that good design creates emotions. The Spanish designer and BD Barcelona Design launched their new major collection under the name ‘Gardenias’ also during Milan Design Week 2013.
The ‘Gardenia’ collection is produced by BD Barcelona Design, a name widely recognisable in the world of design. Since 1972, the company has produced collections such as Grcic, Lovegrove, Mackintosh, Mendini, Sottsass, Dali and Gaudi. The company has also been recognised for its efforts through the Premio Nacional de Diseño (1989), the European Community Design Prize (1990) and the Red Dot Design Award ‘Best of the Best’ in 2011.
