Now that we’ve reached 2015, it’s time to meet one of the most exciting and innovative design events of the year, : Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz. Having place on one of the most emblematic prisions in the world until September of this year, this exihibition is the chance for Weiwei to present his new works.
Raising questions about human rights and freedom of expression, @Large resonates far beyond the bounds of Alcatraz Island. Indeed the irony of this exhibition is that Ai Weiwei was unable to be physically present at Alcatraz during the installation and premiere of @Large.
Just as a curiosity, Weiwei is as a vocal critic of the Government of China, having been covertly detained by the Chinese authorities for 81 days in 2011, and is nowadays not allowed to leave the country.
