The 2013 Venice Biennale, directed by Rem Koolhaas, from June 1 through November 24, 2013 at the Giardini and Arsenale venues and in various venues around the city of Venice.
The design event gatters contemporary artists from all corners of the world. Though only 28 countries have permanent homes inside the Giardini, another 60 have mounted temporary pavilions on the grounds of the Arsenale or in alternative spaces farther afield. This year, 10 countries are participating for the first time: Angola, Bahrain, Bahamas, the Holy See (home of the Vatican), Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Kuwait, Maldives, Paraguay and the tiny 10,000-person Polynesian island of Tuvalu.
Highlights of the 55th International Art Exhibition include not only the national pavilions in the Giardini but also the Prada Foundation’s recreation of the 1969 exhibition Live in Your Head at the Ca’ Corner della Regina, Axel Vervoordt’s Tàpies Lo Sguardo Dell’ Artista at the Palazzo Fortuny and Rudolf Singel at Palazzo Grassi.
